Congratulations to Gordonians Hockey Club 1st team players Struan Mackie and Owen Wright, who represented the Scotland U16 Emerging Boys squad in their three-match series against Ulster at the weekend.
Results:
Friday evening - Scotland Emerging Boys 6 - Ulster U16 Boys 1
Saturday - Scotland Emerging Boys 1 - Ulster U16 Boys 2
Sunday - Scotland Emerging Boys 3 - Ulster U16 Boys 4
Owen featured in Friday evening's opening match, helping Scotland to an impressive 6-1 victory. Struan took to the pitch on Saturday in a closely contested encounter that saw Ulster edge a 2-1 win, with the Gordonians defender producing a strong display at the back.
The final match saw both Gordonians players on the pitch together as Scotland narrowly lost 4-3 in an exciting and fiercely competitive decider. It was a proud moment for everyone at the club to see both boys representing Scotland side by side.
Both players made valuable contributions throughout the series. Owen came agonisingly close to finding the net in the final game, striking the post with a powerful effort from the top of the circle, while Struan impressed defensively with his positioning, composure, and ability to stop a number of dangerous Ulster attacks.
Most notably, both boys looked calm, composed, and confident despite the frantic pace and physical nature of the deciding match. Everyone at Gordonians Hockey Club is incredibly proud of their performances and the way they represented both club and country. We look forward to seeing Struan and Owen wearing the Scotland strip again in the near future.
