Reports on our exciting NL matches at Countesswells on Saturday 28 March

Youth Admin29 Mar - 19:33

Our Ladies - 1st and Champions of Women's National League. Our Men - 3rd in Men's National League

One of the most exciting aspects of both our National League squads for now, and for the future, is the plethora of schoolboys and schoolgirls who have developed by being coached and playing up through the club to reach National League standard. They all played their part yesterday while ably supported by our more experienced players in these two thrilling matches on a cold and windy afternoon.

12.30 Gordonians 4 FMGM Monarchs 2
Our Men swept into an early two goal lead thanks firstly to a corner drag flick by Robbie Wallis and a corner strike by Adam Walker (the younger). Monarchs scored in the second quarter to make it 2-1 at Half-Time.
The youngest members of the squad : Eli Clark (15) and Max Steele (16) up front and Owen Wright (17) in midfield all linked up well with their team-mates. Sam Sharp scored in open play with a smart shot from the top of the D before Monarch scored again, the score now 3-2. The final goal of the game to seal the victory for Gordonians was scored by George Jones after his excellent stickwork allowed him to weave past two defenders in the circle then flick past the goalie. This result consolidated 3rd position in the NL with their lead over Monarchs extending to 4 points.

14.30 Gordonians Ladies 3 Dundee Wanderers Ladies 3
Our Ladies got off to a great start with a corner strike by Abbie Coote. Dundee Wanderers grew into the game and mounted a series of attacks which proved productive with three goals to Wanderers making the score 1-3 at Half-Time.
Our ladies responded in the second half by tightening up in defence and gaining control of midfield. A number of corners were won but were not converted. Still our Ladies strove to find a way to Wanderers' D and in one such move Diketso displayed great skill in controlling and then flicking the ball across goal into the far corner. 2-3. Time was running out but our Ladies were determined not to succumb to only their second defeat of season so they kept their composure to create one final chance of a goal from a penalty corner. From the top of the D the ball was moved to the right then back across but was deflected away from goal. Diketso reached it in a flash and turned smartly to send her shot past the goalie at her right hand post. Final score 3-3. Grove also drew (with Fordhus) so Gordonians have maintained our 7 point lead over Grove in second place with one match to play.
