Last weekend the Ladies 1s played their first ever game in the Scottish Premiership! Not only was it the girls first game in the Premiership, it was against last seasons Grand Final Winners Western Wildcats, so the girls new it was going to be a tough start to the season!

After a very fast start by Wildcats, the girls succumbed to two early goals – one from open play and one well executed short corner from Wildcats. Under a high press and a lot of pressure from Wildcats, the girls found it tough to maintain possession and struggled to advance up the pitch. A further two goals saw the first half end 4-0.

The second half saw a much improved performance! Having settled into the game and tightened up the basics, the girls managed to push up the pitch and into the Wildcats circle. Merlins managed a few shots and a short corner but unfortunately none were converted into goals. Some excellent defending kept Wildcats at bay until a late breakaway goal by Wildcats saw the match end 5 – 0 to the visitors.

It was certainly a tough welcome to the Premiership but the girls should be proud of their performance. With only 12 players (due to injuries and holidays), the girls worked incredibly hard and kept fighting right until the end. A positive start to the season, we’re excited to see the girls develop and push on through the season!

Next weekend see’s the girls take on Clydesdale Western at Countesswells. It’s a 13:30 pass back on Saturday so we hope to see you there!
