Ladies 3rd XI win Development League

Ladies 3rd XI win Development League

Siobhan Crawford5 May - 19:25

A hard fought game against Granite City Wanderers to secure the league win.

On Saturday 3rd May the Ladies 3s went into the game knowing it was going to be tough as we were sitting first and GCW 3s second in the Development league. The result would probably determine the league winners.
The wind and rain made play difficult and the game was played at a high tempo, both teams playing good hockey. We went down 1-0 but managed to pull it back to 1-1 by halftime through a good strike by Arabella Winn at a PC. The second half continued in the same vein and GCW scored a very good goal to go into the lead. Again the girls dug in and Louise Bonsar scored an excellent strike at a PC to take it to 2-2. GCW were attacking well when the defence cleared the ball and from a quick attacking move combining Arabella and Ruby a goal was scored to take us into the lead. In the last few minutes GCW pressured the defence and gained a PC as time ended. They took their corner well but Siobhan Crawford cleared the ball out of the circle to the relief and delight of all the players. An excellent game with both teams showing lots of good play and talented youngsters. A 3-2 hard fought win and 3 points means the 3s have won the Ladies Development league.

The Ladies 3 have had an excellent season resulting in them winning the North District Womens Development League. They finished with 35 points having scored 58 goals with only 15 against them in The team, which is mostly U16, with a couple of more experienced players to help, have developed over the season into a really good team. The aim of each game was to play as a team, learn something that could be improved on individually and as a team and have fun. All aims were met in each game and the girls gave suggestions on what to work on in training on Wednesdays to improve the areas highlighted in the games. Every player has improved over the season and the teamwork in every game has been really good with the girls playing some really good hockey which has been great to watch. There is no promotion from the Development league and the 3s will be a different team next season as some of the current team will move up teams in the Ladies section but hopefully we can keep the winning feeling going!! Well done to all those who have played in the 3s and thankyou to all the umpires, coaches who have helped in the 3s success. Special thanks to Lindsay Bonsar for being the parent helper on the bench during the season and looking after the masks and balls. And of course all the parents for getting the girls to matches and training and their support at the side of the pitch at matches.
