Scottish Hockey's Masters squads hosted two Home Nations Tournaments for Men's 40s and Men's 50s with 9 matches played on the water pitch and 3 games on the Tiger Turf. Throughout the weekend there were good crowds of supporters and local hockey enthusiasts.
Both tournaments were won by England, and Scotland finished in second place in both.
SCOTLAND 40s
had their toughest match first against a very good England 40s squad who scored two goals in each half in a 4-0 victory. Gordonians' Leon Wilkie played very well in a defence which faced countless attacks and breaks by England. The skill level and the pace of the game was very impressive from players in their 40s.
Scotland then won 4-1 vs Wales with Leon scoring one of Scotland's goals with one of his trademark corner strikes. Their final game with Ireland was a high scoring match which was 2-2 at half-time and 5-3 to Scotland late in the game only for Ireland, who had only lost by a single goal to England, to score two late goals to earn a 5-5 draw. So one win, one draw, and one defeat mean that Scotland finished runners-up to England who won all their games and had a goal difference of 11.

SCOTLAND 50s
started with a narrow loss of 2-3 to Wales, then defeated Ireland 3-0. Their final match was against tournament winners England who won 6-1. One victory and two defeats was enough for Scotland to finish in second place on goal difference. Gordonians' Alasdair Freeman played very well in Scotland's midfield.

On Sunday the trophies were presented by our own Bernie Morrison in recognition of the part he has played in growing Men's Masters international participation in Scotland. Bernie was also lead organiser of a previous Masters tournaments at Countesswells some years ago. Well done to the organising committee and volunteers including Alasdair Freeman who has worked hard to make sure the weekend was a success.
