Match Report by Alan Clark
Gordonians Men's 4th XI produced an excellent second-half performance to overturn an early deficit and record a well-deserved 3–1 victory over Aberdeen 2s at Rubislaw on Sunday.
Aberdeen started brightly and capitalised on an early spell of pressure, taking the lead in the first quarter from a well-executed short corner. Aberdeen looked sharp on the break, but Gordonians gradually settled into their rhythm, controlling possession and moving the ball confidently through midfield. Despite several promising attacks and good interplay from their youthful forward line, they were unable to find a way past the Aberdeen goalkeeper before halftime.
The breakthrough finally came midway through the third quarter. After sustained pressure earned a short corner, Eli Clark stepped up and rifled a powerful strike low into the bottom corner to level the score. The goal lifted the away side, who began to dominate both territory and tempo as the match wore on.
In the final quarter, Gordonians’ energy and composure told. Alex Rennie put them ahead with a composed finish after a slick passing move, before Max Steele sealed the result late on with a well-taken goal from close range. Special mentions should be made of young goalkeeper Alan Younger who made a terrific save at 2-1, Brody Morrice, Will Donaldson, Ewan McDonald and Max Steele who are improving with every game.
It was a mature and disciplined performance from a very young Gordonians side, who showed great patience and resilience to come from behind. The 3–1 win reflects their growing confidence and bodes well for the rest of the season.
