Match Report on our Men's 2s vs our Men's 4s on Saturday 14 March, by Alan Clark

Gordonians 2s continued their impressive run in the District League with a 7–2 victory over Gordonians 4s in a match played in excellent spirit and enjoyed by everyone involved. While the 2s ultimately ran out comfortable winners, the scoreline perhaps flattered them, with the 4s remaining competitive throughout in what was an entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable contest for players and spectators alike.

The 2s were clinical when it mattered. Adam Walker led the scoring with an excellent hat-trick, while Eli Clark and Alan Clark both added doubles to seal the win. A youthful midfield trio of Max Steele(16), Eli Clark (15) and Matthew Tomkins (14) excelled, providing a strong platform for the team to build attacks and control large spells of the game.

In defence, Maximus Forsyth Grant (14) delivered an impressive performance at right back, while Juan Harcus Garcia (16) produced another composed display and has continued to be a standout performer since returning from an early-season injury. Further forward, Brody Morrice impressed with his work in attack, doing the basics extremely well and contributing to the 2s’ offensive threat.

Credit must go to the 4th team, who battled hard throughout under the leadership of Kenny Steele. Goals from Wiens van Zeil and the impressive Aleks Rennie (16)—whose pace and direct running constantly troubled the defence—kept them firmly involved in the contest.

Alan Younger (14) produced another excellent performance in goal for the 4s with several fine saves, while Wade Williamson (14) was outstanding in defence. Thijmen van Zeil (17) and Evan McDonald (14) were both dangerous going forward, with McDonald producing one particularly eye-catching surging run in the second half. There was also a memorable debut for young Henry Steele (13), who played alongside his father and impressed with his work rate—surely the first of many senior appearances.

Overall, it was a fantastic advert for club hockey and a testament to the hard work of the Gordonians youth coaches in developing the next generation of players. Best of all, the match finished just in time for everyone to head off and catch the rugby from Dublin. Many thanks also to Mark Palmer and Jim Wright for umpiring.
