After a difficult defeat against Kelburne the previous day Gordonians looked to regroup for the match against Hillhead. The troops were up early to travel down to Glasgow Green and face the team currently at the top of the table.
The match started with both teams trying to settle into the game, but Hillhead came out the blocks quickly and grabbed the first goal of the match, with a penetrating run on the base line and cut back finish.
Gordonians then got a foot hold in the game and after a couple of good attacks, managed to pull it back and equalize after some great work from Robbie Shepherdson to find Fraser Yates, whose goal was his first for the men’s 1st team.
The Second half started in a similar fashion to the first with both teams tired but trying to take control of the match. Good attacking work got Gordonians a short corner but nothing came from it. However from the resulting 16 Ian Coffey was hit high on the fore arm and this time Craig Harper stood up and managed to convert and wonderfully worked short corner. 2-1 Gordonians.
Neither team managed to take control of the game at this point, but it was Hillhead who struck next, counter attacking with nothing to lose and capitalizing on some poor hockey from the away side. Gordonains had chances to stretch a lead but none of them were converted and in very quick succession Hillhead scored 2 goals to take the lead and knock the wind out of the away teams sails. 3 further goals sealed the game for the home side securing a third win in a row.
The final result was a very disappointing one for the travelling side but with a weekend off to regroup and recover Gordonians will hope to come back with a stronger performance to newly promoted Menzieshill on Saturday 3rd October.
