The men's 1st team lost their last game of the first half of the season going down 4-1 to Western Wildcats in Glasgow. Match report by the squad.

The men's 1st team were looking to continue their recent run of form going into the final fixture of the first half of the season. On a terrible day at Auchenhowie the Pelicans began the game with drive and gusto, pressing the opposition high up the pitch and winning a lot of possession, it was only a matter of time until the pressure told and the mighty pelican took a well deserved lead. The cats were befuddled by some magic by the mercurial Pitto down the right, winning a short corner and the hearts of a nation, the subsequent set piece was expertly dispatched by the ageless Craig Harper who dropped the left shoulder and dispatched a flick into the back of the net.. 1-0. Further fruitless forays, featuring the fruitless Fraser failed to yield any additional goals for the well travelled Pelicans. After a period of sustained pressure in the lead up to half time, the good chaps in yellow may have felt entitled to a winning position, but alas the Cats managed to convert their only opportunity with aplomb.

The second half began at a fierce pace, with both teams failing to convert opportunities... Fortunately for the travelling side, one of the western players decided Mr Webb's stick was a caber and threw it as far as he could, receiving a green card for his terrible banter! After a string of short corners, Western took the lead for the first time, after half stick/ half thigh deflection off the line from the Pelicans. Fraser Yates had the chance of the season but in his typical fashion couldn't covert after a full day of graft. The game continued at a high pace for a long period of the second half until once again Western managed to steal another goal. Gordonins were pressing high but western parked the bus like the boring team they are and nailed the Pelicans on the break with an equally boring goal. Gordonians kept on trying to press but couldn't break down a western defence with 9 players in the D... Boring. The cats sucker punched the Pelicans with a further two goals to leave the shoreline at 4-1 which very much flattered the home team.

While todays result was disappointing, the Pelicans can take heart at the encouraging performance in the absence of some key players. First half of the 2015/2016 season has very much been a tale of 2 halfs. Following the success of last season the Pelicans started slowly with a series of poor results however, after winning 4 league games on the bounce they have shown that when they are able to field a full squad, they can cause any team problems. Hoping to add to the squad in the Christmas transfer window, the Pelicans are looking forward to soaring high in 2016.

MON IH PELICANS!
