Two of our teams advance to the 2nd round of the Cup, and two teams now go into the 1st round of the Plate competitions. Men's 5ths win away.

A total of 15 goals were scored in cup competitions at Pelican Park today with good support provided to our teams.

Our Ladies 1sts have made it through to the 2nd round of the Scottish Cup after a convincing victory over NL1 team Kelburne Ladies. Four time winners of the men's Scottish Cup our Men also had NL1 opposition. They came very close to taking Dundee Wanderers to penalties but after a strong finish just lost out 1-2. Eight time winners of the Scottish Districts Cup, Gordonians 2nds progressed to the second round by defeating Menzieshill 2nds 5-1 in the first national cup match played on the new Tiger Turf pitch.

SCOTTISH CUP - WOMEN
MERLINS GORDONIANS LADIES 5 KELBURNE LADIES 1
Scorers: Jen Wright 2, Niamh MacFarlane, Aimee Clark, and Aisling Campion
(Niamh’s goal photo attached)

Siobhan has chosen Aisling Campion as the first winner of Goalkeeper’s Player of the Match
Another strong performance from the girls who were 3-0 up at half-time with the result never in doubt. Kelburne’s keeper called off late and although our girls offered them a goalie kit they chose to play with a kicking back who made some good saves. ( Niamh’s goal photo is attached and more photos and two videos of Siobhan’s saves are now all on the website)

SCOTTISH CUP – MEN
GORDONIANS 1 DUNDEE WANDERERS 2
Scorer: Craig Falconer (video attached)

A closely contested match in which newly promoted NL1 side Wanderers made the most of the chances they created. There were lots of positives for coach Geeg to take from his players’ performances including their energy and determination to respond to a two goal deficit. Craig Falconer drove his troops forward repeatedly in the last 20 minutes and played a captain’s part in converting a rebound from the keeper to give them a chance of forcing penalties but it was not to be. (Craig’s goal video is attached, and photos from the match are on the website)

SCOTTISH DISTRICTS CUP – MEN
GORDONIANS 2nds 5 MENZIESHILL 2nds 1
Scorers: Richard Freeland 2, Ally Provan, Kenny Steele and Will Serle

2-0 up at half time thanks to Richard and Ally our guys had to work hard in defence in the second half before and after Menzieshill scored. Special mention should be made of 15 year old Vaibhav in goal who made some excellent reaction saves. A good move involving Craig Harper and Richard Freeland set up Kenny Steele who scored with a strong shot to make it 3-1 before Richard scored again and Will made it 5-1 after a great run.

SCOTTISH DISTRICTS CUP - WOMEN
GLASGOW ACCIES Ladies 2nds 8 MERLINS GORDONIANS LADIES 2nds 0

It is always difficult for a District League team to get their first choice squad to travel especially as far as Glasgow. Siobhan said this gave a number of schoolgirls a chance to make their debuts at 2nd team level, and she is sure they will have gained a lot from the experience.

NORTH DISTRICT MEN’S DIVISION 2
GRANITE CITY WANDERERS 4ths 0 GORDONIANS 5ths 3

Scorers: Duncan Edwards, Jamie King, and Jerome Alexander
Team captain Peter Fraser was very happy with a solid team performance and made mention of the continuing development of young Louis Roddy.
