Bill Taylor and Duncan Edwards were playing for Scotland Over 55s in Australia

Yet again, two members of our club have helped a Scotland veteran team to success overseas. This time it was for Scotland Over 55 Men who were competing in the 55's World Cup in Canberra, Australia. Their fitness work paid off and it's just as well as they played 7 games in 9 days ! Bill was Scotland's top scorer.

Bill reports as follows:
"Duncan Edwards and myself represented Scotland and were delighted to return with bronze medals in the FIH Masters World Cup Men’s O55 held in Canberra Australia. The first game against New Zealand was key to achieving our medal. In a hard fought game we won 2:1 and I managed to score both goals. In the game against South Africa we were well on top finishing victorious 5:2 in which I scored a further goal. Ireland had been training hard for this tournament so we were pleased to obtain a 2:0 victory and again I scored a goal. The hardest games then followed. We were 1:0 up against England at half time with myself claiming a goal but in an 8 minute spell at the start of the second half we allowed England to score 3 times and the game was effectively over. The Australians were combative on their home soil and beat us 4:0. This left a game against Wales with us already through to the 3rd/4th play-off. Wales secured a draw 1:1 and we met them for the bronze medal. This was an easier game than the 2:1 score line suggests but it did mean the bronze medal was ours. England achieved the gold with Australia the silver. "
