HEROIC HARPER HELPS SEAL WIN OVER HILLHEAD!!

AAM Gordonain Mens 1’s continue their climb up the league table with a strong 4-3 win over Hillhead.

With Gordonains flying high on confidence all seemed set for a continuation of their recent streak of wins going into the home game aginst Hillheeead.

As the game began, the opening few minutes seemed to highlight Gordonains recent success. With the Pelicans seeming to reap the rewards of a “new” pre match routine, which saw none of Mrs McGrath’s delightful fineries and instead empashied intensity over obesity, the men in yellow seemed to be the inevitable team to open the scoring after coming out the blocks fast.

Within minutes the Hillhead goal had been tested twice by Rory McCann, who according to team mate Pitto “Hit the woodwork mare times then a lumberjack min" (expletives removed for our younger readers!!). Despite this, the chances kept coming for the home side and it now seemed certain that they would score first.

The dominance continued with the Gordonian men seemingly unable to seal the crucial first goal. This was until a cute passage of play between Alaistair Dougal and Phillip Moon saw Dougal set free on the opposing baseline, before a clinical pass fell to a grateful Serle who, in front of His adoring fans, slotted in Gordonians first goal of the game and continued his goal scoring run.

The mood of the game quickly changed. Whilst it was still Gordonains who seemed the more commanding team, it was Hillhead that took the lead. Sloppy defending and dodgy decisions gave the opposition a sniff at the goal. Even in form McGrath was unable to stop the clinical finish that put the men from Glasgow a goal ahead. Then moments before half time, a penalty flick was awarded to the travellers. Despite heroically saving two penalties the previous week, the flick was low and hard, in off the post.

This meant that after an impressive start, Hillhead led at the break 3-1. Leaving the home side disappointed but determined to show there true potential.

The second half started with an ominous darkness setting in at Pelican Park.

Once again Gordonians looked the stronger of the two teams and obviously the half time talk had taken effect, as it was they who were to strike first. Adam Walker danced through the Hillhead defense before Ally Dougal banged in a half volley from few yards.

This was to be the start of a dominant second half for Gordonians. However after multiple attempts, including McCann smacking the woodwork twice more, they couldn’t clinch the vital goal to bring them level. Energy levels were running low before all turned to Craig Harper. Harper stepped up to top of the dee and twice from two solid corner routines, sent the ball whizzing into the roof of the net to the delight of the on looking crowd.

Despite Hillheads rampant tempo and intensity in the last moments of the game, they were unable to respond leaving the home side victorious once again

Now with 4 wins from the last 4 games, AAM Gordonians look in a very commanding position going into the vital grudge match next week against Clydesdale. With both teams in top form and the possibility of rejoining the top 4 available, all eyes will turn to Pelican Park in hope that the men in yellow can turn this dream into a reality.
